SPRING IN TUSCANY

Emotions on the road with our Carthago motorhome

Rolling hills, endless vineyards, charming villages and the unmistakable light of Tuscany - a region that makes travellers' dreams come true. Our Italian customer Roberto has set off to discover the beauty of this unique Italian landscape. In his travelogue, he takes us on a very personal tour through historic towns and idyllic countryside. Be inspired by his impressions and experiences from the heart of Italy.

Spring is finally here: off with the coats, out with the energy and vigour!

It's a time for new beginnings, new projects, new adventures and maybe even some marvellous sunsets. So we shook off our winter fatigue and set off to conquer the Argentario and the Tuscan Maremma in our Carthago.

Travelling with a Carthago is more than just getting around: It's a five-star hotel experience. Spacious rooms, a fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds with memory mattresses, peace and comfort all year round thanks to perfect insulation.

Our technology on board:

Truma heating, solar panels and hydraulic feet with home automation app - a spacious bike garage or scooter garage that makes you feel at home.

We chose a rest area in Porto Ercole as our base, from where we then travelled by scooter.

The WWF oasis offers us peace and nature. We walk through the Patanella forest in search of pink flamingos (which unfortunately we don't see because it's not their peak season), but we enjoy the silence, the pine trees, the light in the foliage and the birdsong. Inside the oasis, we also visit the butterfly garden: a delicate little world that raises awareness of biodiversity.

Then we continue to the monastery of the Passionist Brothers and up to Punta Telegrafo and the monumental cross. It's a strenuous walk, but the view takes our breath away.

Our Carthago accessories - the spacious rucksack and cool bag - prove to be excellent travelling companions!

We enter the Maremma of Grosseto with a visit to Capalbio, a charming medieval village between the sea and the hills.

Not far away, the Tarot Garden is a magical place: 22 sculptures inspired by the major arcana, including the giant Empress, which is completely covered in mosaics. The artist Niki de Saint Phalle lived there for years.

On the way back, we stop at the Spanish mill to enjoy the sunset over the sea.

Orbetello welcomes us with an atmosphere suspended between land and water. Crossing the isthmus is like entering another world. We walk between Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano.

Porto Ercole is a little gem that is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Caravaggio lived here and the historic centre is truly magical.

As we climb up to Fort Stella, which was built by the Spanish in the 16th century, we enjoy the marvellous view and breathe in the history. Porto Santo Stefano, with its lively harbour and the Spanish fortress overlooking the sea, is the heart of Argentario.

We take a relaxing walk through the pine forest of Feniglia. The scent of myrtle and pine trees, birds, wild animals and beautiful beaches accompany us. And yes, we did treat ourselves to a dip in the crystal-clear water!

We take the scooter on the promontory along the panoramic road: bends, ascents and descents and spectacular views of the Tuscan Archipelago, Giglio and Giannutri.

The Argentario and the Maremma have given us a relaxing experience of nature, art and relaxation.

Thanks to the "Carthago Italia Facebook Group" community, there was no shortage of new friends, travel stories and improvised aperitifs in front of our motorhome.
