High-end camping at 1,500 metres above sea level

For many, the Caravan Park Sexten is the ultimate definition of luxury camping. Others rave about the unique natural location under the Sesto mountain sundial in the middle of the Three Peaks Nature Park.

In four decades, the Caravan Park Sexten has grown from a simple campsite open exclusively in summer to the benchmark of all outdoor resorts that can be used all year round. Europe's highest LeadingCamping is particularly known for its extraordinary structural solutions, which have continually shifted the definition of what camping can be. This is particularly evident in the sanitary buildings, all three of which have a completely different style and character, but always offer the highest level of comfort. They are rustic and down-to-earth, as in the farmhouse bathroom, but also playful and individual, as in the crystal bathroom. In any case, quality of stay is one of the great strengths of this campsite in all areas. Yes, you like to go into the sanitary buildings, let your eyes wander and discover new, loving details again and again.

The main building, the Berghof Patzenfeld, has been standing since 1986. It set the agenda: From demolished, up to 300 year old farms in the region, the Happacher operating family created a new building that meets all modern requirements and yet looks as if it has been standing for ages between Sexten Moos and the Kreuzberg Pass. The heart of this building has been the Patzenfeld gourmet restaurant since it opened. At times it has voluntarily renounced a Michelin star so as not to deter camping guests from visiting. Those who like it more down-to-earth frequent the tavern in the basement. Here the menu is simpler, but the food is no less tasty, and you can sit at the bar with a glass of wine or enjoy the musical performances.

You can't imagine the Caravan Park without its lavish spa facilities, which surpass the offerings of many five-star hotels. The ensemble, now called "Meridiana Spa", combines a sensational indoor pool - pebble bottom, rough natural stones as pool edge and incomparable mountain panorama - with lush sauna landscape and treatments of various kinds. The name "Meridiana Spa" quotes the Sesto mountain sundial, a special freak of nature that indicates the different hours on the sun's position above various mountain peaks. That's why these mountains have such original names as Elfer-, Zwölfer- or Einserkofel.

It goes without saying that the pitch facilities, including a private bathroom in the basement, leave nothing to be desired. The icing on the cake is certainly that in winter the ski bus stops right in front of the site, but you don't need it at all because you can ski directly to the nearest cable car station Signaue and later return to the site from the Kreuzbergpass. The Caravan Park Sexten is simply the all-year-round place par excellence - and it is really hard to say which season is the most beautiful up there. Autumn and winter certainly have their special opulent charm, but the flower-filled mountain meadows of spring and the wonderfully mild mountain summer are not to be sneezed at at all. Mountain biking, climbing, hiking, paragliding, snowshoeing, sledding, cross-country and alpine skiing, or even a ride in a dog sled team are just a few of the activities that await active campers in the immediate area. If you just want to have a good time at this superlative resort: even that is allowed.
